Citadel Securities is moving to Florida

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has cause for celebration.

Fox Business reports that Ken Griffin — Chicago, Illinois’s richest man — has decided to move his company, Citadel Securities, to Miami, Florida.

Griffin announced his decision in a recent memo to Citadel employees.

“I am excited to have recently moved to Miami with my family and look forward to rapidly expanding Citadel in a city so rich in diversity and abounding with energy,” he wrote. “Miami is a vibrant, growing metropolis that embodies the American Dream.”

The “why?”

This continues the trend that we have been seeing in recent years of big companies ditching blue states for red states. A commonly-traveled path has been from California to Texas.

Every one of these moves has been driven by dissatisfaction by company owners with the policies enacted by Democratic leadership. It appears that Griffin’s move is no different.

Although he didn’t state the reason for the move in his letter to his employees, Citadel officials are reported to have said that a critical factor in Griffin’s decision was Chicago’s crime problem.

Griffin is recently quoted as saying:

If people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here. I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work, countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from.

It’s a free state

DeSantis, through his press secretary, Christina Pushaw, issued a statement in response to the news of Citadel’s move.

“Under Gov. DeSantis’ leadership, Florida is booming, because it’s a free state,” Pushaw said. “Workers and business owners do not have to worry about lockdowns, restrictions, or mandates. Taxes are low, while infrastructure continues to improve.”

Pushaw continued: “Moreover, Florida is a law and order state. Violent crime has skyrocketed in cities like Chicago because of pro-crime leftist ideology. We do not tolerate that in Florida. Because of our safe, business-friendly environment, businesses from all over the country are relocating here, creating jobs and income.”

“We welcome Citadel to Miami as the latest new arrival!” Pushaw concluded.
