CNN host says January 6 committee members are “overselling”

Thursday evening saw Capitol Hill Democrats kick-off their televised hearing on the events of January 6, 2021. According to Fox News, they even hired former ABC News president James Goldston to serve as a producer.

Yet in a move that some on the left will likely see as a betrayal, one CNN personality said the much-anticipated broadcast is proving to be more “hype” than substance.

Chris Wallace says committee members are “overselling”

“I’m kind of skeptical about what we’re going to see tonight and over the next couple of weeks,” The Hill quoted Chris Wallace as remarking just before the hearing was scheduled to begin.

Wallace went on to argue that members of the special committee that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tasked with looking into January 6 have been “overselling” what they have uncovered.

“You’ve got Jamie Raskin, one of the members of the committee, saying ‘this is going to blow the roof off the House,’ you’ve got Adam Kinzinger saying ‘It’s going to change history,” Wallace complained.

What’s more, Wallace pointed to Goldston’s involvement as something which will only further undermine public confidence in the investigation.

“I think that’s a bad look both for the committee and the mainstream media to seem that they are hand in glove with each other,” he declared.

Tucker Carlson: “This whole thing is insulting”

Fox News was alone among major cable networks to avoid broadcasting the hearing, instead running its normally scheduled shows hosted by Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.

Carlson criticized that move, saying, “In the meantime, in the 18 months since January 6, gas prices have doubled. Drug ODs have reached their highest point ever.”

“The U.S. economy is now careening toward a devastating recession at best and scariest and least noted of all, this country has never in its history been closer to a nuclear war,” he continued, adding, “Yet the other networks can’t be bothered to cover any of that tonight.”

“Instead, they’ve interrupted their regularly scheduled programing to bring you yet another extended primetime harangue from Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney about Donald Trump and QAnon.”

“The whole thing is insulting,” Carlson concluded. “In fact, it’s deranged and we’re not playing along.”
