Columnist says Top Gun’s success is a victory for conservatives

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Top Gun: Maverick” has thus far taken in over $600 million at the domestic box office along with an additional $595.6 million from overseas ticket sales.

Conservatives have praised the film for its non-woke content, a fact which Breitbart contributor John Nolte says movie studios should take note of.

The author says that left-wing messaging has turned off many moviegoers

“People still love the movies,” Nolte wrote in an article published on Wednesday, stressing that lack of enthusiasm is “not the problem” when it comes to declining theater revenue.

“The problem is that Hollywood has stopped making movies,” he continued, adding, “Left-wing propaganda is not a movie. Ask ‘Lightyear’ and ‘Star Wars’ about that.”

“Lightyear” is a spinoff from the Toy Story franchise and was heralded by progressives for featuring a kiss between two female characters.

However, the scene has also generated controversy, with Fox News reporting that the film has been banned in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.

Fox Business reported late last month that “Lightyear” saw disappointing results with ticket sales “below industry projections.”

Meanwhile, conservatives have also complained of a leftward slant in recent “Star Wars” films, with the GOP’s official Twitter account putting out a statement in May that read, “Democrats are doing to America what Disney has done to Star Wars.”

Top Gun and a new Spider-Man film called “an oasis away from the Woke Nazis”

Fox News reported in 2019 that although “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” took in $175.5 million during its 2019 opening weekend, the film fell short of benchmarks set by its recent predecessors.

In his piece, Nolte also pointed to the success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” a film he called “another non-woke pleasure” that “raked in more than $800 million domestic.”

“What I think happened is that the public embraced both of those blockbusters, not just because they are great movies, but because they are an oasis away from the Woke Nazis,” he said, speculating that some movie goes probably saw the films multiple times.

“In other words…If you build it, we will come. Again and again, we will come,” the writer concluded.
