Critics irked by Ukrainian president’s Vogue magazine photoshoot

Fox News reported in June that President Joe Biden announced he was sending $1.2 billion in assistance for Ukraine. That move came less than a month after Biden signed a $40 billion aid package for the war-torn country.

However, irritation is building over how Ukraine’s leader seems preoccupied with participating in magazine photo shoots while dismissing concerns over inflation.

Critics irked over magazine photos

The website Twitchy noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and first lady Olena Zelenska were both recently featured in the fashion magazine Vogue, a fact that didn’t go over well with critics.

Detractors included conservative activist Scott Pressler, who asked, “Why did we send $54 billion to Ukraine, so Zelensky & his wife could pose for Vogue? You’re at war & you’ve got time for photo shoots?”

Australian journalist and conservative commentator Avi Yemini spoke up as well, accusing them of trying “to grift billions from western taxpayers.”

Ukraine’s first lady was quoted by Vogue as saying, “These have been the most horrible months of my life, and the lives of every Ukrainian. Frankly I don’t think anyone is aware of how we have managed emotionally.”

Zelensky dismisses Americans’ concerns about inflation as “nothing”

Meanwhile, Fox News host Tucker Carlson took issue with comments that Zelensky made to the New York Post about concerns that continuing support for Ukraine was exacerbating inflation, something he dismissed as being “nothing” and a “secondary” concern.

“Really? Maybe to you, Mr. Zelensky, but to Americans, they are actually kind of meaningful because our countries are not the same,” Newsweek quoted Carlson as saying in his Wednesday night broadcast.

“Why don’t you run yours? We’ll run ours,” Carlson continued, complaining that Ukrainian leaders “have total contempt for us” and “just want our money.”

“They don’t care about the United States even a little bit,” he insisted, adding, “This is not democracy…uniting in solidarity. This is a scam.”
