Critics say Jill Biden’s comments imply her husband isn’t up to handling challenges

For years, supporters of Joe Biden have dismissed critics who say he can’t deal with the challenges that come with running the country.

Yet during a recent speech to members of her party, First Lady Jill Biden all but admitted that those claims are true.

According to CNN, the first lady addressed attendees at a private Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Nantucket, Massachusetts this past weekend.

Biden told how the president “had so many hopes and plans for things he wanted to do” but complained that “every time you turned around, he had to address the problems of the moment.”

“He’s just had so many things thrown his way,” she continued, adding, “Who would have ever thought about what happened [with the Supreme Court overturning] Roe v Wade? Well, maybe we saw it coming, but still, we didn’t believe it.”

“The gun violence in this country is absolutely appalling,” Biden declared before insisting, “We didn’t see the war in Ukraine coming.”

However, many conservatives argue that the rise in gun violence is at least in part attributable to Democratic district attorneys taking a soft approach on crime.

Others, like writer Heather MacDonald, suggest that police have become less proactive due to fears that they may face violent unrest if they have to use deadly force. Fox News reported that during the George Floyd protests, Kamala Harris tweeted support for a bail fund which helped to free violent rioters.

“She basically said her husband is unfit to be President”

Meanwhile, Biden’s contention that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine came as a complete shock is also curious given that Russian President Vladimir Putin previously invaded the country during Barack Obama’s presidency.

Some Twitter users were left unimpressed by the first lady’s statements and took to mocking her husband’s excuses.

“This is literally so funny. Can First Lady Jill Biden please explain to my boss that I had so many hopes and plans for things I wanted to do but every time I turned around there was a problem I had to address,” one user wrote.

“I have no doubt the President’s job is very challenging, but other presidents had faced tougher challenges and still accomplished things, rather we like the outcome or not,” another said. “She basically said her husband is unfit to be President.”
