Cuomo blames Trump for ‘every death’ caused by COVID-19 in United States

Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) came out swinging against President Donald Trump while hawking his new book about leadership during the coronavirus pandemic.

The governor told ABC’s The View that he is holding Trump accountable for every single American death, even as he suggested that it’s a “conspiracy” that his own decisions led to thousands of New Yorkers dying in nursing homes.

Cuomo blames Trump for every coronavirus death

Cuomo has long touted his response to the public health crisis, despite the fact that New York has had more deaths than any other state in the country. He has been particularly eager to dodge criticism of a disastrous policy that led to the deaths of at least 6,400 nursing home patients.

Despite these ghastly results, Cuomo has written a book about his supposedly superior leadership skills and he sought to promote it on The View Thursday, where he again shifted blame onto the president.

“I’m holding you-know-who responsible for every death in this country,” he said.

Cuomo repeated his argument that Trump is to blame for deaths in New York, insisting that the president dropped the ball by not moving quickly enough to shut off travel to Europe. “The virus did not come here from China,” Cuomo claimed.

“He keeps talking about the China-virus, China-virus, China-virus, trying to demonize China. The virus did not come here from China. The virus came here from Europe because he wasn’t paying attention, and the virus left China, went to Europe,” he said.

Dismisses nursing home “conspiracy”

While holding Trump to blame for every single death, Cuomo doubled down on his claim that any scrutiny of his nursing home scandal is a political distraction, calling it a “conspiracy.”

“The way the law works is no nursing home in New York can accept a patient if they don’t believe they can care for that patient adequately and if they can do it within the safety of their facilities, so the conspiracy they’re trying to spread has no factual basis,” Cuomo said.

Despite being caught in public without a mask, Cuomo said that Trump was jeopardizing lives by not wearing a mask.

“No, this is all on his doorstep, and it still is, and the most obnoxious — you know that 110,000 people more are going to die because you won’t wear a mask, and your own neurosis keeps you from wearing a mask?” he said.

Cuomo concluded: “All of your advisers say at least tell the American people to protect themselves. Wear a mask, and you refuse? I mean, how? How crazy.”
