Four people were stabbed, several cops were injured, and dozens were arrested in Washington this weekend as Trump supporters and far-left activists got into street fights, with police officers caught in the middle of the mayhem.
More than 30 people were arrested in connection with the bloody clashes as police struggled to maintain order in the streets of D.C., according to reports from the Associated Press and others.
Blood flows in the streets of DC
The violence erupted in the aftermath of a Million MAGA March, the second in as many months in the nation’s capital since the Nov. 3 election, according to Washington’s WUSA9.
Breitbart reported that members of the right-wing Proud Boys and leftist Antifa clashed in downtown D.C. Saturday afternoon and evening near Black Lives Matter Plaza, which has been a site of leftist agitation since the summer. Police had reportedly blocked off the plaza and a number of streets in the vicinity.
Eight officers were injured in the chaos, the AP reported, and one was left with serious injuries and lacerations to the face after getting hit with an unknown object, police said Monday, according to WUSA9.
As the fighting carried on after dark, four men were stabbed and hospitalized with non-lethal injuries, Fox 5 DC reported. At least one person, 29-year-old Phillip Johnson, was arrested and charged for assault with a dangerous weapon after a confrontation with members of the Proud Boys around 10 p.m., according to the New York Post.
In all, cops made 33 arrests for charges including assaulting police officers, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and weapons violations, reports noted.
A year of chaos
The summer saw similar clashes in many American cities as left-wing groups like Antifa caused riots, battered police, and got into confrontations with right-wing activists, some of which proved fatal.
In video shared by Fox 5, Proud Boys were seen Saturday lighting a Black Lives Matter sign on fire, chanting, “F*** Antifa.”
Earlier in the day, Trump supporters gathered for a rally in support of the president as he continues to claim that the election was “rigged” for Democrat Joe Biden.
The protest came two days before the Electoral College meets Monday to vote for a president.
Some 21 people were arrested in the aftermath of a previous Million MAGA March in November, which also saw violence break out at night downtown, Fox 5 reported. Videos shared by Breitbart at the time showed members of Antifa harassing families of Trump supporters and restaurant patrons.
