Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean says the fact that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is about to make millions off a book he wrote about his handling of the coronavirus pandemic is “disgusting,” Breitbart reported.
Dean has been one of the most outspoken critics of Cuomo during the COVID crisis, as both of her in-laws died from the disease while they were in a New York nursing home.
“I thought it was a joke”
Cuomo has been embroiled in multiple scandals this year related to both sexual impropriety and the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was revealed earlier this year that Cuomo and his administration covered up the true number of coronavirus-related nursing home deaths in his state after enacting a policy early on during the pandemic that sent positive COVID patients to nursing homes.
“When I first read that the governor was writing a book in the middle of the pandemic, I thought it was a joke,” Dean told Fox and Friends on Tuesday.
She continued, “I thought it was a headline in the Babylon Bee or The Onion. How could a governor write a book about leadership when thousands of elderly are dying? It was incredible. And I was mad at the time but seeing he got over $5 million for this, profiting off the deaths of New Yorkers, including my in-laws, it’s disgusting.”
Dean went on to urge legal action be taken against Cuomo:
I think the book publishing company can sue him for breach of contract because it’s filled with lies. And if you look at the timeline — the governor covering up the nursing home issue, the tragedy over 5,000 deaths that him and his administration tried to cover up for months — the timeline corresponds with him trying to sell that $5 million book. So, I wonder if we can profit off the Son of Sam law. All of that money should go to the families of our dead loved ones.
It was reported this week that Cuomo was given a $3.1 million advance for his coronavirus book and that he is going to receive another $2 million for it over the next two years.
The book, titled American Crisis: Leadership Lessons From the COVID-19 Pandemic, was published by Penguin Random House’s Crown Publishing Group.
Cuomo was forced to disclose the money that he received from the book to a state ethics agency, and it was that financial disclosure that led to the backlash from Dean and others.
New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim (D) also slammed the book deal, saying, “it is absolutely disgusting, “and that “there [were] profit motives behind [Cuomo’s] suppressing [of] life and death.”
Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) called the money that Cuomo is receiving for his book “blood money.”
