Dem senator threatens to withhold funding from SCOTUS over 'ethics' concerns

Some Democrats actually believe that "ethics reform" should be a top priority for the conservative majority U.S. Supreme Court, simply because it has issued rulings with which they do not agree.

According to the Daily Caller, some of the more deranged progressive Democrats in Congress, like Senate Appropriations subcommittee chair Democratic Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, have even resorted to suggesting that until such "ethics reform" takes place, he will leverage appropriations to force the high court's hand.

To call that sickening is an understatement.

And while you might wonder if Van Hollen was intoxicated when he made the asinine threat, unfortunately, he wasn't.

"It's unacceptable"

Progressive Democrats have, for years now, called for the expansion of the Supreme Court given that it holds a strong conservative majority, thanks to former President Donald Trump's unprecedented three conservative appointments.

But apparently, since that ridiculous idea didn't take off, Van Hollen-types have resorted to withholding funding for the sacred institution.

"It is unacceptable that the Supreme Court has exempted itself from the accountability that applies to all other members of our federal courts, and I believe Congress should act to remedy this problem," Van Hollen said.

"That’s why I will seek to use the appropriations process to ensure that the Supreme Court adopts a code of conduct similar to that which applies to other members of the federal bench. I recognize that, given the composition of the Congress, this effort will require bipartisan support, so I’ll be working to secure that – but I don’t see any reason why ensuring that the Supreme Court establish a code of ethics should be a partisan issue."

Yeah, not even the most RINO of RINO Republicans would join in that effort, if they want a chance at ever being elected again.

The Daily Caller noted:

Among the Court’s funding requests for the 2024 fiscal year was $5.9 million to increase the Supreme Court Police’s protective activities and $6.5 million to improve physical security measures at the building.

New rules

Senate Judiciary Chair Democratic Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse celebrated new rules for the Judicial Conference last month, saying it requires the disclosure of things like "personal hospitality gifts, such as expense-paid trips and meals."

"I’m hopeful this rule is a harbinger of more ethics and transparency improvements to come for the Supreme Court," Whitehouse's statement last month read.

While Democrats attempt to pretend it's about "ethics," let's call it what it is: they're mad that it's the one institution that they can't control with their radical, harmful narratives, and they'll use any method available, including withholding funding and creating new "rules" in an attempt to hamstring and intimidate the high court.

America is changing, rapidly, and until Republicans really step up, and until we elect a Republican president, it will only continue to worsen.
