Top New Jersey Democrat called to resign after suggesting Trump assassination

Although the mainstream media is calling the election for former Vice President Joe Biden, members of the political left continue to lose their minds.

Chris Emrich, a member of the Collingswood Progressive Democrats in New Jersey, is being called on to resign after seemingly calling for the assassination of President Donald Trump, Fox News reported.

What happened?

Emrich’s remarks came in response to someone who was making fun of the Lincoln Project. The Lincoln Project is an organization of never-Trumpers who are working to rid the government of Trump and any politician who supports him.

“Our efforts are aimed at persuading enough disaffected conservatives, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents in swing states and districts to help ensure a victory in the Electoral College and majorities that don’t enable and abet Trump’s violations of the Constitution; even if that means Democrat control of the Senate and expansion of the Democratic majority in the House,” the group wrote in a New York Times piece.

For obvious reasons, many Republicans are extremely unhappy with the group, and one Twitter user recently dubbed it the “Stinkin’ Project.” That’s when Emrich lost control.

He replied that we “need a John Wilkes Booth Project.” Booth, of course, is the man who assassinated former President Abraham Lincoln.

Takebacks allowed?

After Enrich’s comment was discovered, Camden County’s Democratic Committee called for his resignation. “The idea that someone would apparently threaten the life of a sitting President, regardless of party, is unconscionable, dangerous, and antithetical to our democratic values,” said James Beach, the chairman of that committee.

Beach, in addition to asking for Enrich to resign, also asked for authorities to investigate the incident.

Camden County Republicans also called out Enrich. “This is what the woke and morally superior progressives from Camden County think of life in general, only certain lives matter it seems,” they wrote. “These are the same frauds calling for defunding the police, but that’s none of our business. Democrats are dangerous and they are right here in Camden County.”

Refuses to resign

Enrich has since tried to explain away his comment, NJ.com reported.

“Like a lot of people, I’ve been stressed out following the election and I made a stupid joke. I’m going to own it,” he said. “I made a dumb joke on Twitter. I’m embarrassed. It’s something I’m not proud of.”

Enrich added that he will not resign.
