In a bizarre moment this week, Connecticut Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro denounced her Republican colleagues as "terrorists."

According to the Washington Examiner, DeLauro's outburst came on Tuesday afternoon during a meeting of the House Appropriations Committee.

DeLauro lashes out at House Freedom Caucus in angry rant

"You are negotiating with terrorists," she declared in a reference to Oklahoma Republican Rep. Tom Cole and other members of the House Freedom Caucus.

DeLauro insisted that Republicans are "placat[ing] the whims of some who, I might add in looking historically, do not ever vote for appropriations bills."

"Members on your side, I will continue to call out the harm you are doing in this process, both in what these bills proposed to do and in your approach on how we treat one another," the longtime Democrat declared.

DeLauro objects to amendment which would ban gay pride flag at federal buildings

DeLauro was angered by an amendment put forward by Cole, who serves as chairman of the Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee.

Cole's amendment would earmarks from being used to pay for LBGTQ projects as well as prohibit flying the gay pride parade at government buildings.

Republican members reacted by motioning to have DeLauro's words stricken from the record. The Connecticut congresswoman later asked they be withdrawn following a recess.

The Examiner noted that DeLauro was not alone in condemning Cole's amendment, as Wisconsin Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan did so as well. Pocan, who is gay, alleged that the move would result in more violent hate crimes like the one he was a victim of.

Pocan recalled being beaten with a baseball bat

"I wasn't out yet, left a gay bar, and two people followed me and beat me with a baseball bat 'till I was bloodied unconscious and called me a 'faggot,'" Pocan recalled.

"This is what you guys do by introducing amendments like this taking away from people's earmarks," the progressive lawmaker loudly declared.

"If you were to take away earmarks because they went to the NAACP or the Urban League, you would rightfully be called racist bigots," he went on to insist.

"But when you do it to the LGBT community, it's another frickin' day in Congress," Pocan yelled at his fellow lawmakers. "They always say there are Democrats, Republicans, and appropriators, and now we have to say there are Democrats, Republicans, appropriators, and unfortunately a bigger umbrella called bigots."
