Democrats continue to turn on Biden ahead of midterms

It’s more bad news for President Joe Biden.

Politico just published a report quoting a number of Democrat insiders as suggesting that Biden is a huge liability for Democrats going forward, including in the midterm elections.

“More of a drag than Obama”

Some of the insiders quoted by Politico are particularly worried about the effect that Biden’s lack of success and lack of popularity is going to have on the midterm elections.

Democratic strategist Danielle Cendejas, for example, told Politico:

Any [midterm election candidate] who’s polling is getting a poll back right now showing the president is more of a drag than Obama was in the midterms. That, I think, leads to a pile on of Democrats who are frustrated about their prospects.

Part of what Cendejas was referring to here is the fact that there seems to be a strong relationship between a president’s approval rating and the outcome of midterm elections. Thus, Biden’s approval rating coming in at less than 40% is bad news for Democrat candidates nationwide.

“Living in La La Land”

Another Democrat adviser, who Politico spoke with, also took issue with the fact that Biden is not taking steps to improve his and his fellow Democrats’ situation. Here, the advisor is specifically referring to Biden and the Democrats’ attempt to pass the ironically-named Inflation Reduction Act.

“[The Biden administration] doesn’t understand that the only thing people care about is inflation, gas prices, and the economy writ large,” the adviser is quoted as saying. “Of course, there’s no messaging, and, of course, they don’t have any idea what the message is. They’re living in La La Land.”

Yet another Democratic strategist told Politico that “Americans are looking for someone that will make them feel something — anything — again,” and that Biden just isn’t giving it to them.

Background

This is the latest of several reports that clearly demonstrate that American Democrats, including party insiders, are increasingly turning their backs on Biden.

It’s easy to understand why given that Biden has failed to succeed in just about anything and he has failed to put the Democrats in a position from which they could succeed.

For these reasons, many are calling for a new Democrat candidate for 2024. Polls have consistently demonstrated that Americans – including Democrats – do not want Biden to run for reelection. Nonetheless, Biden has insisted that he will.

Biden might not be allowed to run again if he has as much opposition from within his own party as reports, such as the one from Politico, suggest.
