Some House Dems ignore Pelosi’s advice to tout Biden’s Build Back Better agenda: Report

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) recently gave members of her Democratic Caucus advice on how to talk about President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda.

However, a new report suggests that some Democratic lawmakers are choosing to ignore her advice and simply distance themselves from the unpopular stalled legislation. It’s a sign that her authority is beginning to slip, The Daily Wire reports

Avoid saying “transformative”

According to the outlet, Pelosi told “VIP” donors in a since-leaked conference call that she has coached her members to focus on Build Back Better’s supposed cost-saving features.

“So, this is transformative,” The Daily Mail quoted Pelosi as saying last week. “But people tell me, don’t use the word ‘transformative.’ Just say it lowers costs.”

“It lowers costs for health care — costs for families across America,” the House speaker claimed at one point during the call.

“It lowers cost of child care,” she continued. “It enables so much more to happen. So, we’re very, very proud of the legislation. Now we just have to get it passed.”

Polls are bad news

Public enthusiasm doesn’t seem to be behind Build Back Better, though, with Fox Business citing a Morning Consult poll showing less than half of voters favor it.

For her part, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has attempted to downplay public dissatisfaction over the program by suggesting it simply stems from voters being uninformed.

“Uniformed” Americans

“What we see in a lot of polling is that people like the components of the bill, but they don’t know exactly what is in Build Back Better and what it means,” Psaki said on Jan. 5, according to Rev.

“And it’s always easier to sell a package to the public once it’s passed,” she insisted. “So, we’re hoping to get to that point. That is our objective.”

However, The Daily Wire noted that a number of Democrats apparently regard Build Back Better as something they would rather not touch — regardless of what Pelosi says.

That includes Iowa state legislator Christina Bohannan (D) who “has been conspicuously silent on the measure to the point of not even mentioning it on her Twitter account.”
