A new Democrat-backed bill would require owners of the AR-15, one of the most popular firearms in America, to register their guns with the federal government.
According to American Military News, H.R. 4953, introduced Friday by Florida Rep. Ted Deutch (D), would make semi-automatic rifles subject to regulation under the National Firearms Act.
Under the National Firearms Act (NFA), the owners of certain guns must submit fingerprints and photos to the feds and pay a $200 tax.
“The weapon of choice”
Under Deutch’s bill, NFA regulations would apply to “any semi-automatic rifle” that can use a detachable magazine, such as the AR-15. One of the most popular sporting rifles in the nation, the AR-15 has often been mischaracterized as an “assault weapon” and “weapon of war” by gun control activists.
“Congress passed the National Firearms Act after the 1929 Valentine’s Day massacre to tightly regulate certain machine guns [and] shotguns. After 2018’s V-Day attack at [Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida and] others, it’s time to update this law [and] regulate the weapon of choice in mass shootings: semiautomatic rifles,” Deutch said in a tweet.
The bill’s other co-sponsors include Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL), Andre Carson (D-IN), Jim Cooper (D-TN), Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA), Mondaire Jones (D-NY), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), and Nikema Williams (D-GA).
Dems crave national gun registry
In practice, if President Joe Biden were to sign this bill, the nation would be one step closer to establishing a federal gun registry.
As part of his draconian gun agenda, Biden has proposed that all Americans who own “assault weapons” either be forced to surrender them to the government, or register them under the NFA as part of a “buyback” — that is, confiscation — program.
Biden has also pushed for an “assault weapons” ban outright, although his gun agenda has failed to advance in Congress. He has also proposed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) regulations that would add potentially millions of gun owners to the NFA registry.
During his short time as president, Biden has demonstrated open contempt for the Second Amendment, which he has wrongly claimed always limited which weapons Americans can buy.
What’s more, his nominee to lead the ATF, David Chipman, is a Giffords lobbyist who is simpatico with his gun-grabbing agenda.
