Shocking new details continue to emerge after authorities found the remains of a young boy inside a home in Houston, Texas, earlier this month.
According to reports, local investigators called the case ” too horrific to be real.”
“Unspeakable living conditions”
As ABC News reported, a 15-year-old boy contacted authorities to report that his younger brother’s body had been hidden in his home since last year. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that deputies encountered the teen boy and two children — ages 7 and 9 — when they arrived at the scene.
The three siblings were said to have been found in “unspeakable living conditions” with soiled carpets and infestations of cockroaches and flies within the house. In a subsequent press conference, Gonzalez noted that the children had been left alone in the home for some time and all were extremely thin with clear signs of malnutrition.
“The mother, we believe, was providing some food by delivery service or having food dropped off on a fairly routine basis,” he advised, noting that it appeared to consist entirely of junk food.
“My prayer is that the remaining children find the love, support, and protection that they so desperately need and deserve,” Gonzalez added.
Although the sheriff has had a long career in law enforcement, he acknowledged that he has “never heard of a scenario like this.”
“Blankness in the eyes”
Another official weighed in on the dire circumstances of the case, noting that the children were “as sweet as they can be” but appeared younger than their actual ages and possessed a haunting “blankness in the eyes.”
Their mother has been identified as Gloria Williams, 35, and she is facing charges related to evidence tampering and injury to a child by omission.
Brian Coulter, the father of the deceased 8-year-old boy is accused of his murder. That child, identified as Kendrick Lee, was beaten to death, according to a medical examiner’s report.
Coulter is also alleged to have inflicted an injury to the jaw of one of the surviving children several weeks ago.
Authorities believe Williams and Coulter moved to another home about 25 minutes away and left the three children behind simply because they did not want to be around the young boy’s dead body any longer. Rent payments for the apartment where deputies found the siblings were reportedly being funded by government assistance.
