DeSantis-back candidates help GOP gain control of Miami school board

In recent years, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has become one of the country’s most high-profile Republican politicians.

More evidence emerged this week when the candidates he endorsed took control of the Miami Dade school board.

DeSantis says candidates are committed to his education agenda

The Blaze reported that Monica Colucci and Roberto Alonso won their races on Tuesday night. Despite school board races being nominally non-partisan, their victory effectively gives the board a Republican majority.

Other DeSantis-back candidates were also in Martin County, Clay County, Sarasota County, and Duval County. The governor provided a statement to WKMG-TV explaining why he decided to get involved in school board races.

“These pro-parent, pro-student local school board candidates are committed to the DeSantis education agenda,” he said.

In addition to being supported by DeSantis, Colucci and Alonso received support from the 1776 Project PAC, a political action committee which says it is “dedicated to electing school board members committed to abolishing CRT from the public school curriculum.”

Texas school board limits instruction on race and gender theory

Another tweet from the 1776 Project PAC touted the group’s role in helping to change the lineup of Miami’s school board along with a similar victory in Texas,

“Yesterday, a Texas school board that we flipped last May banned CRT and gender ideology,” the organization boasted.

“Today, our PAC helped flip FIVE Florida school boards from majority liberal to conservative, including Miami Dade. We are removing left-wing ideologies from our schools one county at a time,” it continued.

The Post Millennial noted that on Monday, Texas’ Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District passed a series of policies restricting instruction on race, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
