Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis offered strong words against California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom after the West Coast liberal aired ads in Florida to attack him.
DeSantis was asked by reporters about his thoughts and offered a searing response.

Mistreating his own people
“As he was locking down his citizens, he would then go and have these extravagant dinners at the French Laundry to basically rub his citizens’ noses in the fact he was treating them like peasants,” DeSantis said.
The response was critical of Newsom’s publicized breaking of his own lockdown measures that treated his citizens with different rules that he followed.

Fighting for freedom
In contrast, DeSantis has become known as the governor fighting for freedom. When lockdowns shut down much of the nation, he fought back to reopen Florida months ahead of other states.
DeSantis has also strongly supported efforts to protect the integrity of elections, as he has noted in a recent message.
We have taken action to protect the integrity of our elections by making ballot harvesting a felony, strengthening voter ID, eliminating drop boxes, and banning Zuckerbucks. pic.twitter.com/kio4bQ2IpT

Some have suggested the DeSantis versus Newsom feud could be the beginning of a future presidential battle between the two opposing leaders.
#Editorial: “In what was probably an attempt to inject levity into an otherwise grim situation, Gov. Gavin Newsom, California Democrat, appeared in an ad encouraging Floridians to move to California.
It was about as embarrassing as you might expect.”https://t.co/8jka2VaFIt

If so, DeSantis has already taken a clear swipe at his opponent, showing he’s not backing down from Newsom’s criticisms.
