DeSantis leads GOP in party’s biggest victory of Florida

Republicans in Florida enjoyed a historic night of wins across the state, with both Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio celebrating victory by large margins.

DeSantis led the way with his win over Democratic candidate Charlie Crist with over 58% of the vote.

The victory

“While it is unclear if DeSantis’s and Rubio’s leads will expand as the final votes are counted, both appear likely to win their races by double-digit margins,” the Washington Examiner reported.

“He is going to have the biggest victory in the history of Florida,” state Sen. Joe Gruters, the Florida Republican Party chairman, told the outlet Tuesday night.

A historic win

“DeSantis quickly took a commanding lead over Crist, who trails the popular conservative governor by a staggering 1.5 million votes with 98 percent of ballots counted. News outlets called the race around an hour after polls closed,” Life Site News reported.

DeSantis’ 19-point margin of victory is the largest in a Florida governor’s race since 1982,” it added.

Analysts were surprised at the margin of victory, noting that Florida has shifted from a purple state to a strong red state in a short time.

The emphasis on freedom continues to resound both in the Sunshine State and nationwide as the victory adds to already growing speculation of a presidential run by the governor.

The night was one of celebration for the GOP, which is still waiting to discover whether its red wave prediction will result in a power shift in Congress.
