A rising star in the entertainment industry has died less than two weeks after first announcing that he had contracted the coronavirus.
Ricarlo Flanagan, a TV actor, comedian, and rapper, has died at the young age of 40, Fox News reports. Though no official cause of death has been confirmed, reports noted that Flanagan had indicated on Oct. 1 that he’d tested positive for COVID-19.
Flanagan was reportedly best known for his recurring role on Showtime’s Shameless, as well as for being a semifinalist in the ninth season of the NBC competition show Last Comic Standing.
“I don’t wish this on anybody”
Flanagan’s death was confirmed to Deadline by way of a statement from his agent, Stu Golfman of KMR Talent.
“Ricarlo was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life and a joy to work for,” Golfman told reporters. “He will be missed dearly.”
In his Oct. 1 tweet, Flanagan wrote that the coronavirus was “no joke” and said that he wouldn’t wish the disease on anyone.

“Sadly this pandemic has taken the life of an extremely talented performer and even nicer human being,” the actor’s agent said in a statement to Variety. “Ricarlo will be greatly missed,” Golfman added.
Remembered as an actor, rapper, comedian
In addition to his recurring role on Shameless as well as the Disney+ program Walk the Prank, Flanagan made a number of single-episode guest appearances on various TV shows, Variety notes, including The Mick, The Carmichael Show, Insecure, The Neighborhood, Kidding, Room 104, and the recent revival of Mad About You.
He also appeared in the forthcoming comedy series Bust Down and in a soon-to-be-released film titled Emily the Criminal, reports said.
According to Deadline, Flanagan was also a stand-up comedian. He released a comedy album in 2013, and was a semifinalist on Last Comic Standing back in 2015.
As a rapper, Flanagan released three albums: one in 2010, one in 2019, and one in 2020 entitled Hope You’re Proud, according to NBC News. He had a fourth album set to be released this coming Tuesday.
