Disney should ‘get with’ current ‘queerer’ generation

The corporate president of Disney Corporation, Karey Burke, said that Disney needs to “get with it” because Generation Z is 30-40% queerer than previous ones, Fox Business reports.

“When I was at Freeform, it was very much in the brand ethos to be the tip of the spear when it comes to inclusion,” Burke said.

“In part, I think nobody stopped us because we were targeting Gen Z and millennials. We were targeting younger and more open-minded …,” she added, before cutting herself off mid-sentence.

Freeform is Disney-owned.

Burke has two children that identify as queer, which is where most of the LGBT push comes from.

Burke has also said in a video that she wants to see a quota of 50% racial minority and LGBT characters in Disney’s shows by next year.

“Don’t Say Gay”

Disney has come out publicly against a new Florida law that prevents schools from teaching children about LGBT and gender identification from kindergarten until at least third grade, and then only in an age-appropriate way.

Some Disney employees walked out on the job last week to protest Disney for not doing more to protest the law, even though it does not prevent teachers from talking to students about these issues if they initiate the conversation or from answering questions or giving them information.

Opponents intentionally mislabeled the law as the “don’t say gay” law even though it does not prohibit teachers from saying the word “gay.”

As a company, Disney has pledged to repeal the law, which was signed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R) last week.
