DNC adviser Bardella defends Biden verbal assault on GOP as ‘truth’ and ‘not political’ at all

President Joe Biden recently delivered a highly political primetime speech in which he thoroughly denounced “MAGA Republicans” as a dire threat to democracy and national security and America itself, for which he faced sharp criticism and pushback.

Yet, according to a top Democratic Party adviser, Biden’s speech wasn’t “political” at all as the accusations he hurled at his partisan opposition was nothing more than the unvarnished “truth,” Fox News reported.

Such was the view of Kurt Bardella, an adviser to the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, during an appearance Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” with host Joy Reid.

Biden on the attack

President Biden’s speech on Sept. 1 about the “battle for the soul of the nation” was devoted to attacking former President Donald Trump and the “MAGA Republicans” who support him as violent domestic extremists who posed a deadly threat to the nation that must be confronted and countered at all costs.

To be sure, Biden offered a caveat in that speech that “not every Republican” was a semi-fascist extremist, and even seemed to contradict his entire message the next day when he told a reporter, “I don’t consider any Trump supporter a threat to the country.”

Bardella must have missed the caveat and contradictory walk back, though, as he made clear on Tuesday that he lumped all Republicans together as dangerous threats to the country and democracy in his defense of Biden’s thoroughly partisan attack speech.

Dem operative insists that Biden speaks “truth” about Republicans

“By the way, it’s not political to tell the truth about the threat to democracy that MAGA Republicans pose,” Bardella said. “It’s not political to uphold your oath of office which literally states to defend the Constitution of the United States.”

“When you have people out there saying that if they don’t get their way at the polls, they will resort to violence; when you have people out there, sitting United States senators saying if the Justice Department actually upholds the law, there will be riots in the street; when you use violence to try to achieve a political means, you need to be called out and that’s not political,” he continued.

“That’s just existing in the real world with the rest of us and telling the truth and being honest. That’s what President Biden is doing right now,” the Democratic operative said.

“Meanwhile, Republicans are bending over backwards trying to somehow make the case that they are the party of national security, the party of law enforcement, while at the same time putting a target on the backs of FBI officers, putting a target on the backs of poll workers, volunteers, the people who are literally on the front lines of our democratic process, the people we’ve all seen when we go to the polls and see the volunteers, the senior citizens, the civic-minded people who don’t have a partisan agenda, just want to do their part to try to make democracy work,” Bardella said.

“Those are the people that MAGA Republicans are targeting and it’s despicable,” he added without a hint of irony or any self-reflection on his own party’s behavior in recent years.
