More than three years ago, CNN’s Don Lemon was accused of sexually assaulting a man at a bar on Long Island in New York.
This week, Fox News reported that the alleged victim claims to have turned down multiple settlement officers, claiming he is more interested in a public acknowledgment than money.
“Ready to get this behind me”
Dustin Hice asserted that if his complaint “was about money,” he would have “taken any of the three separate settlement attempts” that Lemon’s team has offered.
“This horrible ordeal has taken a huge toll on not only me, but my loved ones as well,” he added. “I’m just ready to get this behind me but our day in court is coming soon enough.”
According to Hice’s lawsuit, he was approached by the broadcaster in 2018.
“Lemon intensely pushed his fingers against Plaintiff’s face under Plaintiff’s nose, forcing Plaintiff’s head thrust backward as Defendant repeatedly asked Plaintiff, ‘Do you like p**** or d***?”
As he allegedly made the inappropriate remarks, Hice claims that Lemon “continued to shove his fingers” in his face “with aggression and hostility.”
“A vendetta you have against Mr. Lemon”
During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show this week, Hice insisted that he turned down each of the settlement offers presented to him. Last year, he made a similar statement, asserting that he was “not doing this for notoriety or fame” but to stand up for his beliefs.
“I’ve grown a new respect for people dealing with mental health issues because stress, depression, anxiety, those are all very serious things,” he said at the time. “It consumed my life.”
According to Hice, Lemon’s associates attempted to portray him as someone “trying to extort $1.5 million” from the CNN host but “never mentioned that he offered many times over six figures to settle.”
For its part, the cable news network has declined to comment on the latest development in the story. Lemon’s attorney, however, confirmed to Fox Digital that an initial sum of $8,000 was offered as a potential settlement.
Lemon’s attorney Caroline J. Polisi sent a letter to host Megyn Kelly, asserting: “You permitted Mr. Hice’s statements to go unchallenged during your broadcast, clearly out of a vendetta you have against Mr. Lemon.”
