Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy confronted White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Friday for the administration’s unfairness in the press briefing room, The Hill reported.
This comes after President Joe Biden “snubbed” Doocy during his first solo press conference on Thursday, not allowing the journalist to ask him a single question during the hour-long event, according to The Hill.
“Official administration policy?”
The exchange between Doocy and Psaki took place during a press briefing, during which Doocy asked Psaki whether it was the “official administration policy” for Biden never to call on him.
“We’re here having a conversation, aren’t we?” Psaki replied. “And do I take questions from you every time I come to the briefing room? Has the president taken questions from you since he came into office, yes or no?”
As is typical for Psaki, this was a deflection.
While it is true that Psaki, herself, takes questions from Doocy, the only questions that Biden has taken from him are ones that Doocy shouts out in the hope of getting the president to answer them. Usually, these questions only get a dismissive response from Biden.
After Biden’s first solo press conference, reports emerged indicating that Biden had a piece of paper that told him which journalists to call on.
The no-call list
On Friday, Doocy sked Psaki about that list. “I’m just curious with this list that he is given,” he said. “The only member of the five network pool never on it dating back to when he resumed in-person events in Wilmington during the campaign.”
Psaki, however, stuck to her strategy.
“I’d say that I’m always happy to have this conversation with you, even about the awesome socks you are wearing today, and have a conversation with you even when we disagree,” she said.
“The president has taken your questions and I’m looking forward to doing ‘Fox News Sunday’ this Sunday for the third time in the last few months,” she added.
As was demonstrated in this interchange, Psaki does call on Doocy, but she doesn’t answer his questions. We still don’t know if the Biden administration has some sort of “don’t let Biden call on Doocy policy” but it’s clear that Biden isn’t anywhere close to former President Donald Trump who regularly appeared and answered questions from an extremely combative press.
