Dr. Oz faces allegation that he violated the Foreign Agent Law

Dr. Mehmet Oz’s political future may be in jeopardy.

According to the Daily Wire, two new reports have been released that raise questions about Oz’s ongoing connection to Turkey, and one of the reports even argues that Oz may have violated the Foreign Agent Law.

“Clearly . . . a foreign agent”

The latter report comes from the New York Post. According to the outlet, the Armenian National Committee of America has sent a letter to the Department of Justice urging it to investigate Oz for violating the foreign agent law.

Under the law, foreign agents have to register as such with the U.S. government, and the committee argues that Oz has failed to do so. Accordingly, they say that Oz could face up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.

The group specifically points to the work that Oz has done for Turkish Airlines, 49.12% of which is owned by Turkey. The work includes promotional videos that are shown to passengers.

The Post reports, “a former Justice Department official who oversaw enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act told The Post that the charge may have merit.” Oz and his people, however, are calling this nothing more than a “ridiculous” “political hit.”

“Rankling . . . national security”

On top of this, ABC News released a report of its own raising “national security” questions about Oz’s participation in Turkish elections.

The outlet reports:

The television star has largely shied away from discussing his ties to Turkey, where he maintains citizenship, and dismissed criticism from political opponents that he harbors any so-called “dual loyalties.” But a photograph of Oz casting a ballot in Turkey’s 2018 presidential election is rankling some national security experts — particularly after recently saying he has “never been politically involved in Turkey in any capacity.”

Oz is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Turkey, and he has confirmed that the photo posted by ABC of him voting in Turkey’s 2018 presidential election is authentic.

Less than two weeks away

Oz is currently running as a Republican out of Pennsylvania for a U.S. Senate seat. The Republican primary for the race is scheduled to be held on May 17.

The latest polls have Oz in a virtual tie with David McCormick. But, 39% – a plurality – said that they still are not sure who they are going to vote for.

The poll was taken during a period between April 20 and May 1. That was before the reports from ABC News and the New York Post.
