Elon Musk says he’ll back Gov. Ron DeSantis for president in 2024

Elon Musk said he would support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for president in 2024 if he runs against former President Donald Trump.

Musk made the remark in a Twitter comment when asked if he would vote for DeSantis.

The comment

“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far,” he said.

The comment also included reminding people that the comment was a big change for him as Musk had supported Barack Obama in the past.

Trump on Twitter

The support for Trump rival DeSantis comes after Musk allowed the former president back on Twitter after his permanent ban after Jan. 6, 2021. Trump said he did not plan to come back.

“I’m fine with Trump not tweeting,” Musk said in response. “The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service.”

The support comes as DeSantis earned a strong win during the 2022 midterm election in his reelection battle as governor of Florida.

DeSantis has earned support nationwide from conservatives for his outspoken views against pandemic restrictions and criticisms of the Biden administration.

The Florida governor has made no announcement about a run for the White House, but at least has Musk’s support if he does.
