Elon Musk says unions have an ‘insane’ amount of power in Biden’s White House

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has become more politically involved in recent months, with the latest example coming last week.

Fox News noted that during an interview with the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley club, Musk said most Americans are not aware of how much influence organized labor has over the Democratic Party.

“Insane” power

“The general public is not aware of the degree to which unions control the Democratic Party,” Musk told his interviewers.

“One does not need to speculate on this point,” Musk insisted before recalling an incident in which one of America’s most powerful private sector unions successfully lobbied to exclude Tesla from a White House event on electric vehicles.

“Last year, Biden held an EV summit where Tesla was explicitly not allowed to come, but the [United Auto Workers] was. So, Tesla has made two-thirds of all the electric vehicles in the United States,” he explained.

“So, deliberately excluding us from an EV summit at the White House — but including UAW — tells you everything you need to know,” he argued.

Musk went on to complain that the UAW has “so much power over the White House that they can exclude Tesla from an EV summit — insane.”

What’s more, Musk took issue with President Joe Biden heaping praise upon General Motors CEO Mary Barra for leading a “EV revolution” despite her company managing to produce just 26 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Voting Republican

Fox News also pointed out how this is not the first time that Musk has leveled complaints at the UAW, as he previously mentioned the fact that former UAW official Timothy Edmunds had pleaded guilty to embezzling millions of dollars from union members.

“Fighting for the right to embezzle money from autoworkers,” Musk said of the union in a tweet put out this past March.

Musk’s growing outspokenness comes as he has become increasingly embraced by conservatives. The billionaire recently predicted a “massive red wave in 2022” after announcing that he just voted Republican for the first time in his life.
