From Ukrainian oligarchs to Chinese communists, Hunter Biden’s shadowy business career has brought him into contact with some dubious characters.
A new report from the Washington Free Beacon claims Biden’s escapades also included “consulting” for a Nigerian-American oil tycoon who tried to buy gold from an African warlord accused of ethnic cleansing.
The Free Beacon discovered the connection in Biden’s notorious emails, which had previously exposed details about his business deals in Ukraine and China while his father, Joe, served as vice president in the Obama administration.
The younger Biden’s influence-peddling didn’t stop there. According to the Free Beacon, Hunter tapped into his father’s network to link up with a Nigerian-American oil executive appointed to Obama’s international trade advisory board in September 2010, Kase Lawal.
Through Mike Axelrod, the son of Obama adviser David Axelrod, Hunter Biden secured a “consulting” job introducing Lawal, the billionaire president of Houston-based oil company CAMAC International, to the ambassadors of two petrostates, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Hunter Biden reportedly introduced Lawal to UAE ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba on Jan. 5, 2012, and then asked Otaiba to facilitate a meeting between Lawal and Saudi Arabia’s ambassador.
These meetings came despite a public scandal over Lawal’s attempt to buy millions in gold from a Congolese warlord convicted of war crimes and sentenced to 30 years in prison by the International Criminal Court, Bosco Ntaganda, also known as “The Terminator,” as the Free Beacon noted.
Lawal’s company hired Rosemont Seneca, Hunter Biden’s private equity firm whose co-founders included the stepson of John Kerry, over an “unspecified” deal in 2011, the Free Beacon reported, and a “longtime Biden family associate” named Mark Doyle helped bridge the connection.
Biden’s emails reveal a prolific grifter whose dealings were as audacious as they were bizarre. At one time, the now-president’s son was paid $1 million to serve as the attorney of a Chinese business partner, Patrick Ho of CEFC China Energy, who was convicted of bribing African officials for oil drilling rights, the Free Beacon said.
Ye Jianming, the since-vanished chairman of CEFC, was once close friends with Hunter Biden. His most infamous do-nothing role was with Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy company where he made a killing despite no experience.
Contrary to his public statements, Joe Biden was likely intimately aware of his son’s business dealings and at one time met with Hunter’s business partners over dinner in Washington, D.C, including a man from Burisma, reports note.
All the while, Hunter Biden remains under investigation for alleged tax fraud.
