Big Tech social media platforms have been accused of censoring thousands of conservative and independent voices, have declared certain subjects that are unfavorable for Democrats to be entirely off-limits, and have even banned — perhaps permanently — a popular Republican president that Democrats no longer wanted to hear from online.
We’ve now learned that some or all of those seemingly partisan acts initiated by Big Tech came at the behest of Democrats — including President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign — in email exchanges that essentially berated Facebook for not censoring their ideological opponents more often, according to Breitbart.
The report appears to lend credence to the suspicion held by many in the ideological center and right that Big Tech platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, are aligned and in collusion with the Democratic Party and its activist base against those who openly dissent against the left’s agenda.
The stunning revelation first emerged from CNN, though the left-leaning media outlet likely didn’t intend to expose the connection between the Biden campaign and Big Tech, but rather, as an amplification of Democratic complaints that social media platforms weren’t adequately censoring dissidents and free-thinkers.
The CNN report was said to have referenced emails obtained that were sent between the Biden campaign and Facebook, in which the campaign repeatedly urged the platform to crack down censoriously on perceived “misinformation” from former President Donald Trump’s campaign and Republicans in general.
The report noted how “frustrated” the Biden campaign officials and Democratic activists had become that Facebook and Twitter were initially reluctant to take down posts with which the campaign disagreed.
Dems want Big Tech to pick a side
One example highlighted by CNN included a video shared by the Trump camp that featured Donald Trump Jr. calling upon his father’s “able-bodied” supporters to “enlist” in a growing “army” of election monitoring volunteers that would stand guard against the “millions of fraudulent ballots.”
The emails reveal that the Biden campaign complained directly to Facebook and demanded that the video be removed, but Facebook declined to do so since, at that time, there was nothing in the video that appeared to violate its policies or warrant censorship.
The Biden camp continued to berate Facebook over the video and others, prompting Facebook — as well as Twitter — to increase the frequency with which it labeled certain posts as potential “misinformation” and provide links to establishment-approved information, though the video in question was never taken down.
Apparently, that wasn’t good enough for the Biden campaign or its allied activists, who continued to pressure Big Tech social media platforms, both publicly and privately, to side with them in the information war being waged online.
A “right-wing propaganda machine”?
A Facebook official provided a statement to CNN arguing that the platform had done plenty to heed the left’s complaints and censor those who dissented from the left’s narratives, citing as examples of Facebook’s actions the fact that certain election-related content had been limited, thousands of purportedly “QAnon”-aligned accounts had been suspended, so-called “Stop the Steal” groups had been disbanded, and the eventual banning of Trump’s account.
Incredibly, though, none of that has been sufficient for Biden’s camp and its leftist comrades, who laughably continue to insist that, despite all of the above actions that have resulted in the silencing of tens of thousands of conservatives and independents, Facebook continues to serve as a “right-wing propaganda machine” on par with Fox News.
