Emmy Award-winning Anne Heche dies after horrific car wreck

Hollywood lost a big player last week after it was announced that Anne Heche, in the wake of a horrendous car crash, has died at the age of 53, People reports

Last week, Heche crashed her vehicle into a residential home located in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles. The homeowner wasn’t injured, but the crash left the house inhabitable and resulted in critical injuries to the Emmy Award-winning actress.

Heche never regained consciousness after the horrendous crash, and though her heart was still beating on Friday, she was declared legally dead according to California law.

The actress’s family is keeping her heart beating until a transplant organization can properly find recipients for her organs.

Family statement

Heche’s family and representatives announced her passing, and several family members released statements honoring the late actress.

“Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend,” one of Heche’s reps wrote.

They added: “Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”

“My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom,” wrote Heche’s oldest of two sons, Homer. “After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.”

Tributes and controversy

Given her popularity and successful Hollywood career, it’s not surprising that Heche received tributes from many of her colleagues in the business.

However, others were not as forgiving, given that Heche’s crash was likely a result of severe intoxication, and the woman in the house that was struck by Heche’s vehicle has received an outpouring of support, including a fundraiser to get her a new home.

Heche leaves behind two sons, Homer, 20, and Atlas, 13.
