The unprecedented Mar-A-Lago raid has exposed a dangerous and disturbing arrogance among current and former members of the Deep State.
In a shocking tweet, former CIA director Michael Hayden called the Republican party the most “dangerous” political movement in the world, the Washington Examiner reported.
Ex-CIA director makes crazy comment
Hayden had responded to a tweet from the Financial Times’ Edward Luce describing the GOP as the most “nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible” group he had encountered as a reporter covering terrorism.
“I’ve covered extremism and violent ideologies around the world over my career. Have never come across a political force more nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible than today’s Republicans. Nothing close,” Luce said.
In his reply, Hayden took care to flex his resume, declaring, “I agree. And I was the CIA Director.”
Hayden’s apparent conviction that Joe Biden’s political enemies are dangerous terrorists worse than al-Qaeda or ISIS may explain why he endorsed the execution of former President Trump after the raid at Mar-A-Lago.
He wrote, “Sounds about right” in response to a tweet from historian Michael Beschloss that all but called for Trump to be killed for treason.
The Deep State
Ironically, Hayden probably imagines he is a principled defender of “norms” and “democracy.”
His rantings come as attorney general Merrick Garland and FBI director Christopher Wray have angrily blasted skeptics of the Mar-A-Lago raid.
The DOJ has fought to keep the affidavit justifying the raid secret, however, and many Americans have lost trust in the FBI over its role in the Russian collusion hoax and handling of the Hunter Biden scandal.
As it happens, Hayden was one of the 51 intelligence officials who put their thumbs on the scale for Joe Biden in 2020 by baselessly asserting that the Hunter Biden scandal was “Russian disinformation.”
It does not seem that the unraveling of that lie has humbled Hayden or his friends in high places.
