The video gaming world lost an absolute legend last week as a YouTube sensation who goes by the name Technoblade — a Minecraft player — said his goodbyes to his legions of fans before dying from aggressive, Stage 4 cancer at the age of 23.
According to USA Today, the content creator was only known by the name “Alex” outside of his gaming personality. His father read a goodbye letter to his fans on Thursday through the young man’s YouTube account, which was followed by some 11.4 million fans.
The note was typed on his father’s laptop roughly eight hours before he passed away.
His father called him the “most amazing kid,” and thanked his millions of fans for making Technoblade the famous gamer that he became to be.
“So long, nerds”
“If I had another one hundred lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time, because those were the happiest years of my life,” Technoblade’s note read, in a letter titled “So long, nerds.”
The gaming star added: “I hope you guys enjoyed my content and that I made some of you laugh. And I hope you all go on to live long prosperous and happy lives. Because I love you guys. Technoblade out.”
His mom added an important note regarding one of his priorities for his personal life.
“He avoided personal fame and worked hard to keep his true identity confidential, and I ask you to continue to honor his wishes to protect his privacy and the privacy of his family,” the gamer’s mother said at the end of the video.
She added that even with a stage 4, terminal diagnosis, Alex “didn’t complain, and kept using his famous strategic mind to try to beat what he knew were almost impossible odds. My son’s bravery on this path was a shining lesson to all of us who were privileged to walk with him.”
Needless to say, Technoblade’s massive and hugely impressive following over the years boosted him into the elite class of popular gaming content creators, many of whom wrote tributes on social media to their fellow gamer.
