Report claims Bob Saget died in his sleep; family, fans await autopsy results

There has been plenty of speculation about what led to comedian Bob Saget’s tragic, sudden death at 65 years in an Orlando hotel room on Sunday.

While the autopsy results aren’t finished, a new report claims that Saget died peacefully in his sleep.

“Tucked” in bed

The report, from TMZ, cites sources close to the investigation who say that Saget was found “tucked” in bed, with the lights off. The comedian had called his wife, Kelly Rizzo, before going to bed.

He was supposed to check out of the hotel Sunday and return to Los Angeles, but when his wife didn’t hear from him, she phoned the Ritz-Carlton hotel where Saget was staying. That’s when staff found Saget in his room around 4 p.m.

The autopsy will take another 10 to 12 weeks to complete, but the medical examiner has said that there is no evidence that drugs or foul play had any role.

Police speculate that Saget suffered a heart attack or stroke. He was found lying in bed, with his left arm “across his chest while his right arm was resting on the bed,” TMZ reported, according to the Daily Mail. His room was said to be tidy.

Authorities are looking at the possibility that Saget, who suffered a recent bout with COVID-19, developed a surprise fatal blood clot.

Family, fans crushed

But those close to Saget say the comedian said he seemed fine, as TMZ reported. According to the Daily Mail, Saget was fully vaccinated for the coronavirus and had recently received a booster shot.

Hours before he was discovered dead, Saget had tweeted about how much he was enjoying stand-up, writing, “I had no idea I did a 2 [hour] set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this s***.” His show Saturday night turned out to be his last.

Saget’s fans, family, and former Full House co-stars are in mourning.

“My whole heart. Bob was my absolute everything,” Rizzo said, according to Fox News. “I am so completely shattered and in disbelief. I am so deeply touched by the outpouring of love and tribute from our friends, family, his fans and his peers.”

While the medical examiner has yet to provide a complete picture of what happened, it would certainly be reassuring to Saget’s fans and loved ones to know that he felt no pain.
