Not long ago, if one suggested that the origin of the COVID-19 virus was in any way, shape, or form related to China, one was labeled a xenophobic conspiracy theorist, because so-called “experts” said otherwise.
But according to the Washington Examiner, even experts like chief medical adviser to the president — and the left’s science hero — Dr. Anthony Fauci, are beginning to slowly backtrack on their positions, with Fauci dropping a bombshell in a recent report in which he suggested that COVID-19’s potential Chinese origins should absolutely be investigated.
The admission comes in the wake of a growing body of evidence that the pandemic could be a result of an “accidental” leak from a Wuhan, China laboratory.
What did Fauci say?
Fauci, who already suffered a massive blow on the general popularity front thanks to his incessant flip-flopping on virtually everything related to COVID-19 guidance, seems to be singing a new tune with regard to China’s involvement in the outbreak of the deadly, global virus.
Politifact’s Katie Sanders recently asked Fauci, who also serves as the highest-paid government employee in his long-held position of director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), if he’s still under the belief that COVID-19 emerged naturally.
“No, actually. … No, I’m not convinced about that. I think that we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we find out to the best of our ability exactly what happened,” Fauci said last week in the interview, which unsurprisingly didn’t garner the media attention it deserved, as it’s a clear reversal from his earlier stance on the matter.
“Certainly, the people who’ve investigated it say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could’ve been something else, and we need to find that out. So, you know, that’s the reason why I said I’m perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus,” he added.
The tables have turned
It was barely a year ago that Fauci literally chuckled at the possibility that the COVID-19 virus was a result of some kind of negligence stemming from the Chinese lab. He made that clear in an interview with National Geographic reporter Nsikan Akpan, who asked that very question.
Fauci said at the time that “if you look at the evolution of the virus in bats, and what’s out there now is very, very strongly leaning toward this could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated — the way the mutations have naturally evolved.”
Interestingly, former President Donald Trump’s administration and President Joe Biden’s administration have confirmed that Chinese authorities seemingly went out of their way to prevent in-depth investigations into the origins of the virus, with Trump taking the lab leak theory to another level by suggesting on multiple occasions that it was intentional.
“Unfortunately, Beijing has hindered the conduct of a full, credible investigation. There is overwhelming circumstantial evidence, however, to support a lab leak as the origination of COVID-19, while there is no substantive evidence supporting the natural zoonosis hypothesis,” a recent GOP-led House Intelligence Committee report revealed.
While it might take some time for various world governments to determine the cause of the deadliest virus outbreak in a century, don’t be surprised if you see the corporate mainstream media and the “experts” begin to slowly and tactically back away from laughing off the idea that it originated in a Wuhan lab.
