The notoriously slippery Dr. Anthony Fauci said he has “no regrets” about funding dangerous coronavirus research in Wuhan, China, in his latest attempt to quell speculation about a potential laboratory leak.
In one of his many media hits, Fauci told CBS News that the search for the origins of the coronavirus is an unfortunate “distraction” from the coercive vaccine propaganda he has been pushing, Breitbart reported.
Fauci’s “only regret”
For months, Fauci has responded defensively when pressed on whether “gain-of-function” research, which makes viruses more dangerous, took place at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). Under penalty of perjury, Fauci has insisted that it did not.
But the National Institutes of Health (NIH) did provide funding to the lab through EcoHealth Alliance, an organization led by Peter Daszak, that went toward gain-of-function research, the Daily Caller noted.
Fauci was questioned about the scandalous research, and speculation that it led to the COVID-19 outbreak, by CBS host Major Garrett, who asked, “To those who think there might be some type of scandal or something incorrect or ill-advised about those grants, what would you say, Dr. Fauci?”
But Fauci brushed off the question. Anyone who knows anything about virology, Fauci said, knows that there is no way that COVID-19 could have “molecularly evolved” from the viruses the researchers were working with.
Doubling down, he said his “only regret” is that discussion of the Wuhan lab has become a “distraction” from Joe Biden’s vaccination campaign.
Will we see accountability?
Despite Fauci’s vague claim that “anyone who knows anything” agrees that the research in Wuhan was harmless, evidence has emerged suggesting that Daszak’s work was dangerous enough to alarm the United States Defense Department.
According to Newsweek, DRASTIC, a group of independent researchers investigating the pandemic’s origins, released documents this week showing that Daszak sought funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to modify coronaviruses to make them more infectious to humans — i.e., gain-of-function.
DARPA reportedly rejected it, saying it “put local communities at risk.” A former State Department official says the new documents “completely contradict” Fauci.
It seems Fauci is desperate to hide something. Also under scrutiny is Daszak, who organized a disinformation campaign smearing the lab leak as a “conspiracy theory” in early 2020. He even personally thanked Fauci in April 2020 for helping to “dispel the myths” about the Wuhan lab, as the New York Post noted.
But this is not the first time Fauci has made naked appeals to “science” to dismiss valid questions about his culpability in a potential lab leak. Fauci has even said that questioning him is like “attacking science.” When can we expect Fauci to be held accountable?
