Nolte: FBI needs to investigate Biden assault allegation

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has been unable to sidestep the allegations of sexual assault put forward by former Senate aide Tara Reade.

With growing momentum behind the story, a full FBI investigation of Reade’s allegation is due — for everyone’s sake, Breitbart’s John Nolte says. Even some Senate Democrats have expressed openness toward an “independent” investigation of Reade’s claims against Biden, The Hill reported.

Democrats signal support for investigation

Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) said on Monday, “We need an investigation that has independence that will then ensure that the facts are established.” He stressed, “It should be independent” as he noted that even Biden has called for the claim to be looked into.

Joining him was Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), who also said, “I think it’s important to have appropriate independent scrutiny brought to bear to help inform all of us about the situation.”

Still another signaling support for an investigation is Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), who suggested that he is open to changing the Senate rules to allow for the release of any formal complaints filed by Reade at the time of the alleged incident in 1993. “The American public needs to know was a complaint ever filed,” he said.

Even Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) expressed support for opening up the Senate personnel files to see if a complaint had ever been filed or not.

None of those senators went so far as to call for the FBI to step in, however — the few who were asked specifically about that possibility demurred while focusing instead on the alleged complaint.

Reade vs. Blasey Ford

Ironically, though, many Democrats demanded an FBI investigation be launched into the allegations put forward by Christine Blasey Ford against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings in 2018, Nolte noted, when Ford’s accusations had far less corroboration and credibility than Reade’s claims do.

Ford couldn’t specifically recall when or even where Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted her, never even established that she’d actually ever met him, told nobody about the supposed incident when it occurred, and even her own named witnesses either failed to corroborate or directly rebutted her claims.

In contrast, Reade worked for Biden, can cite the time and place the alleged incident occurred, told numerous family members and friends about it — who have all backed up her claims — has called for the media to dig into her story, and even placed herself in legal jeopardy if she’s lying by filing an official police report.

If innocent, an investigation would benefit Biden too

At the insistence of Senate Democrats, as well as a few moderate Republicans, the FBI did conduct an investigation into the allegations against Kavanaugh and ultimately cleared him due to a lack of evidence. Nolte argues that the same standard — an FBI investigation — that was demanded for Kavanaugh should similarly be applied to Biden.

If Biden is innocent and the incident never occurred, as he has claimed, then he should have nothing to worry about and should look forward to being exonerated by the FBI. Otherwise, this story won’t be going away anytime soon, and the suspicions surrounding Reade’s allegations will grow.
