The Washington Examiner reports that a Democrat who is looking to become Florida’s next governor confounded many this week by randomly stating that she has “no sex tape.”
That Democrat is Nikki Fried. She is currently seeking the Democratic nomination, which would allow her to go up against the incumbent governor, Ron DeSantis (R).
Fried said that she has “no sex tape” in a tweet that she released on Friday and also put on her campaign website.
“It’s absurd that I have to dignify this, but there is no sex tape,” Fried tweeted. “Sorry to disappoint. Also sorry basically every successful woman has to deal with these types of rumors.”
It was a head-scratching tweet, to say the least. Fried did not provide any context: she didn’t link any report or retweet any message claiming that there was such a sex tape. She just came out and said that she has “no sex tape.”
Several inquiries have been made into what exactly Fried is talking about here, but Fried has refused to elaborate. Instead, by Saturday evening, the message was taken off of her campaign website, although it is still on Twitter.
Also, since then, the Washington Times has managed to talk to an insider, and this insider told the outlet that Fried, in making the comment, was looking to dispel “old rumors” that date back to her time in Tallahassee, Florida, where she was a lawyer and lobbyist.
“She wanted to clear it up for anyone who had gotten wind of this new rumor,” the insider said.
Not buying it
Many Twitter users have made the claim that Fried only made the sex tape comment to draw attention to herself.
Reporter Jacob Airey even accused Fried of employing the “Jussie Smollett strategy,” referring to the actor who has been convicted of staging a fake hate crime against himself.
Similarly, Radio Host Derek Hunter wrote that Fried’s sex tape comment is nothing more than “a pathetic attempt to get publicity, even for her.” “Just like your ‘press conferences,’ no one would want to see it if were real,” he said.
As of the time of this writing, Fried had still not commented on the situation.
