Florida Democrats Giving Up: We’re Getting ‘Our Butts Kicked’

Florida Democrats are giving up on making gains in the state of Florida as Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) supports the state’s conservative constituency, describing his state as “America’s liberty outpost.”

According to a report by Breitbart News, Florida Democrats have admitted that they’re getting their “butts kicked” in recent months.

According to a Politico report published on Friday, Democrats and the Biden White House are “stumped” in Florida since they haven’t recently won any sizable victories. Along with DeSantis, the Florida legislature has resisted conventional wisdom in the media over the period of Biden’s presidency and even before. Examples include opposing vaccine mandates and promoting parental rights. Democrats are now hesitating before pouring money into the state as a result.

“If you were to ask me, does Florida give you as good a return on investment as other places? Clearly right now it does not,” Democratic National Committee Finance Director Chris Korge said, according to Politico. “We got our butts kicked in Florida recently. Our butts kicked.”

He asserted that Democratic leaders do not believe it is wise to entirely withdraw from the state, arguing that it would be wiser to make progress there before DeSantis gains more support, especially if he decides to run for president later in his political career.

“I think the White House absolutely thinks we need to be engaged there now rather than waiting until 2024 when it becomes more expensive to stop [DeSantis],” he said. “We are going to be engaged in the midterm and, you can quote me on this, the DNC is absolutely not giving up on Florida.”

White House strategy appears to be a challenge to DeSantis and his policies, targeting the man rather than the platform itself:

But Biden in recent weeks has taken a more confrontational approach with DeSantis. Biden and his administration recently hammered the governor for making his state the only one in the country to not pre-order pediatric Covid-19 vaccines. White House Covid response coordinator Ashish Jha even held a briefing with Florida reporters, where he called DeSantis’ move “unconscionable.”

Biden also issued an executive order banning programs that receive federal money from offering conversion therapy, a direct response to the DeSantis administration pushing to end state-funded gender-affirming care for transgender minors. DeSantis’ health department also crafted a rationale to justify banning Medicaid from paying for puberty blockers for transgender people.
