Former congressman says new disinformation board “a direct attack” on Truth Social

Many observers grew uncomfortable last week after the Biden administration announced that it is creating a “Disinformation Governance Board.”

They include former Republican congressman and current CEO of the Trump Media & Technology Group Devin Nunes. During a recent interview, he said the “Orwellian” agency will have former President Donald Trump in its crosshairs.

“Something you only see in dictatorships”

According to the Washington Examiner, Nunes made that claim as he spoke with Maria Bartiromo, host of Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“I think it’s so Orwellian, so dystopian, something you only see in dictatorships that now, they’re going to set up some type of disinformation board,” Nunes asserted.

“I think that’s a direct attack on what we are doing at Truth Social, because we can no longer be canceled,” the former GOP representative continued.

Truth Social is an alternative social media platform spearheaded by former President Trump, who officially began using the service last Thursday.

“We’re going to protect our users from this new phony government disinformation service, and the fact that they would use some D-rated TikTok star that is the queen of disinformation herself on the Russia hoax and the laptop from hell to head up is really the height of hypocrisy that’s so unbelievable,” Nunes pledged.

Proposed disinformation board head caught spreading disinformation

For his part, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas defended his department’s Disinformation Governance Board on Sunday.

“The board does not have any operational authority or capability,” the Examiner quoted Mayorkas as telling CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

“What it will do is gather together best practices in addressing the threat of disinformation from foreign state adversaries, from the cartels, and disseminate those best practices to the operators that have been executing in addressing this threat for years,” he insisted.

However, Western Journal contributor C. Douglas Golden pointed out in a piece this weekend that the woman who is set to lead the Disinformation Governance Board has herself been caught spreading disinformation.

Nina Jankowicz has repeatedly suggested on Twitter that reports about Hunter Biden’s laptop were a Russian creation even though mainstream media sources like The New York Times and Washington Post now acknowledge the story to be real.
