In a truly bizarre move, disgraced former FBI agent Peter Strzok recently claimed that 9/11 was “nothing” compared to the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.
According to Fox News, Strzok made the statement while being interviewed on Monday by MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” host Nicolle Wallace.
Strzok says government should be on a “war footing”
The former law enforcement agent made the remark after Wallace asserted that January 6 was the “deadliest attack on the U.S. Capitol in our, you know, in history.”
“I think that’s right, and I think if you look at the scale in terms of a threat to democracy – I mean, 9/11 was a tragedy,” Strzok said of the 2001 terror attack in which nearly 3,000 people were murdered.
“We lost thousands of lives in a horrific way, we still mourn to this day, but when you look at something that is an attack on democracy, something that could actually bring about a fundamental change to American governance as we understand it – 9/11 is nothing compared to January 6,” he continued.
Strzok went on to insist that the United States government should adopt a “war footing” when dealing with the January 6 rioters.
“FBI and the rest of the government, if they are not only on the same sort of war footing that they were on in the weeks and months and years after 9/11, shame on everyone,” he declared.
“This is a far greater threat to our constitutional democracy than anything we’ve faced in the past 20 or more years. We need to be addressing it the same way.”
Fox News noted that Strzok was fired from the FBI in 2018 after text messages between him and his lover Lisa Page during the 2016 presidential campaign were discovered. Among them was a promise by Strzok that “we won’t allow” Trump to win.
Social media users condemn Strzok’s claim
Strzok’s words resulted in outrage on social media, including from conservative journalist Nicholas Fondaacaro who tweeted that Strzok is “corrupt.”
While framing it against 9/11, Nicolle Wallace claims January 6 was “the deadliest attack on the U.S. capital in history.”
