Twenty years ago, Americans came together after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks — but a lot has changed since the global war on terror began under President George W. Bush. For proof, look no further than the Biden administration’s “domestic war on terror” in response to a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, and a growing tendency among liberals to compare Americans who disagree with them to terrorists.
In just the latest example of this dangerous trend, a former member of Barack Obama’s Cabinet compared anti-maskers in the U.S. to the suicide bombers who killed 13 American soldiers in the final hours of the Afghanistan War, Fox News reported Sunday.
As America mourned, former Education Secretary Arne Duncan fired off a tweet mocking the idea that opponents of mask and vaccine mandates put in place amid the COVID-19 pandemic are fighting for freedom and compared them to terrorists.
“Have you noticed how strikingly similar both the mindsets and actions between the suicide bombers at Kabul’s airport, and the anti-mask and anti-vax people here?” Duncan tweeted, according to Fox. “They both blow themselves up, inflict harm on those around them, and are convinced they are fighting for freedom.”
Duncan’s analogy is of course totally nonsensical and deranged, but the implications are even more concerning. If “anti-vaxxers” are terrorists, then in Duncan’s view, it is justifiable to kill them.
But in some good news, Duncan was “ratio’d,” meaning he received significantly more negative than positive responses, with 4,000 quote tweets and 19,000 comments, compared to 500 retweets and 1,600 likes, according to the Daily Mail.
“Unbelievable!” Arizona Republican Debbie Lesko said of the development, as the Daily Mail reported. “Obama’s former Secretary of Education equated U. S. citizens that want a choice to get vaccinated to suicide bombers. It is scary how some Democrats in power think!”
The good guys
But Duncan is hardly the only one suggesting that “anti-vaxx” Americans be treated like terrorists. Michael Hayden, who led the CIA under Obama, recently said it sounded like a “good idea” to send “the MAGA wearing unvaxxed” to Afghanistan, according to the Daily Caller.
Another former member of Obama’s national security team, Juliette Kayyem, suggested placing unvaccinated Americans on the federal no-fly list, according to Fox. Is there a pattern forming?
Many were alarmed when the Department of Homeland Security issued an alert describing opposition to COVID-19 restrictions as a terrorism threat, in another case of encroaching liberal authoritarianism.
Meanwhile, many on the left have cheered on the Biden administration’s political persecution of protesters who were at the Capitol on Jan. 6, part of its draconian “domestic war on terror” that ostensibly purports an “extremist” threat exists on the right that is somehow comparable to groups like al-Qaida.
Clearly, to many liberals, “extremism” is nothing other than dissent from their agenda. Many on the left have become comfortable with dehumanizing their political opponents — and the scariest part is, they think they’re the good guys.
