Barack Obama's political career underwent a meteoric rise that saw him go from being a state lawmaker to president of the United States in less than a decade.

However, he recently said that former First Lady Michelle Obama told their daughters not to follow in his footsteps.

Mrs. Obama said daughters "would be crazy" to enter politics

According to People magazine, Mr. Obama's comments came this past week as he participated in a Los Angeles fundraiser for President Joe Biden.

When asked by late-night comedy host Jimmy Kimmel whether which of his two children would make a better president, Obama jokingly dismissed the idea.

"That is a question I do not need to answer, because Michelle drilled into them so early that you would be crazy to go into politics," the former president replied. "It'll never happen."

For his part, Biden offered words of praise for 25-year-old Malia and 22-year-old Sasha Obama, saying that both are "powerful young women."

Poll shows Mrs. Obama losing to Trump

Yet despite Mrs. Obama's well known aversion to running for office, some have speculated that she could replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.

One person to make such a suggestion is Tennessee Republican Rep. Andy Ogles, with The Hill reporting that he floated the idea last week during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.

Ogles argued that Hunter Biden's recent criminal conviction "creates an opening" as "the Biden family can say, 'Hey, we’re going to take care of our house, we’re going to take care of our son,' and then allow Michelle Obama to come in and run."

"Because again, Joe Biden can't win this election, and they know that they are desperate for another candidate," Ogles went on to add.

Interestingly, a poll commissioned by the Daily Mail in March found that Mrs. Obama is far from being a sure bet for Democrats, as it showed her losing to Trump by three points.

Former President Obama had to guide Biden off stage

The weekend fundraiser was also notable for a viral video in which Biden seemed to freeze up as the event drew to a close.

As the New York Post noted, Biden appeared to stare blankly off into the audience for roughly 10 seconds before former President Obama took his hand and led him away.
