Fox News anchor Uma Pemmaraju dead at 64

Fox News anchor Uma Pemmaraju died at the age of 64, according to a statement from the company.

The cause of her death and details regarding her passing have not yet been revealed.

The statement

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Uma Pemmaraju, who was one of FOX News Channel’s founding anchors and was on the air the day we launched,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement.

“Uma was an incredibly talented journalist as well as a warm and lovely person, best known for her kindness to everyone she worked with,” Scott added. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to her entire family.”

Her impact

Pemmaraju served as one of the founding anchors of Fox News when it began in 1996.

“At that time, Pemmaraju was one of the only Indian-American anchors to reach national prominence, Fox News noted. She anchored original shows on the network like ‘Fox News Now’ and ‘Fox On Trends,’” The Daily Wire reported.

“In 2003, she left the network briefly before coming back as an anchor and substitute host across the network on programs such shows as Sunday edition of ‘FOX News Live’ and ‘The Fox Report,'” it added.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee noted, “I was so sad to hear. @UmaPemmaraju was a beautiful person inside & out. Talented and kind. A cherished friend.”

The loss marks the end for one of the network’s original leaders and a voice whose legacy will long outlive her life.
