Fox News’ Brit Hume questions authenticity of WH claim that Biden will run in 2024

Reuters reported that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told journalists Monday that President Joe Biden plans to seek re-election in 2024, saying, “That’s his intention.”

However, some observers aren’t taking the claim seriously, including Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume. In a recent interview, he even wondered if Biden will still be in office come election time, given his poor performance thus far — not to mention his age and cognitive condition.

According to Mediaite, Hume’s expressed doubts over Biden’s future during a Monday appearance Fox News’ Special Report.

“Clearly deteriorating”

“I don’t think it’s at all clear that he intends to run again, but I do think as a political matter, you have to say that,” Hume told host Bret Baier.

Hume explained that it is important for Biden to avoid the perception that he is a lame-duck, because “lame-duck presidents don’t do well.”

Still, he wondered whether the 79-year-old president will “be in any condition to” campaign for an additional four years in office.

Hume went on to tell Baier, “In fact, I think the thing we have to watch is the question of whether he serves out his first term.”

“He’s clearly deteriorating, he’s clearly senile, and his health is — despite his doctor’s claims to the contrary — you know, when you’re falling downstairs and so on, as he did climbing the stairs to Air Force One, that’s worrisome,” Hume added.

Biden’s struggles

Critics contend that Biden’s mental state was already in decline even before he assumed the presidency. At various points during last year’s campaign, as The Hill reported, he seemed to forget what state he was in, told voters he was running for a seat in the U.S. Senate, and seemingly confused his wife with his sister.

Recently, Fox News reported that the president was seen dozing off as he listened to speeches at a United Nations climate conference in Scotland.

Meanwhile, in October, the president clearly sounded incoherent while speaking at a campaign event for former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D).

“In fact, we’re taking a page from Terry’s book from when he was governor and we’re…when he’ll be governor next time,” Biden told a crowd. “We’re emerging from this pandemic and we want to expand p-pre-K for 3 and 4-year-olds, millions of (unintelligible).”
