Violent crime is on the rise in America, with many major cities reporting a significant upswing in murder rates, which happens to come in the wake of a progressive-led, nationwide push to defund America’s police departments.
According to Fox News host Jesse Watters, there’s little hope that President Joe Biden will do much about the concerning issue. Watters, who has been especially critical of Biden’s approach to tackling various issues, recently dismissed the president’s suggestion that additional gun control measures could help solve the looming problem.
“They don’t have a clue”
“We know criminals shoot people with guns, Joe. Why are shootings up?” Waters exclaimed on Saturday evening’s airing of his program, Watters’ World.
“Biden is incapable of figuring that out or he is ignorant and just doesn’t want to,” the conservative commentator continued, adding, “Translation, they don’t have a clue.”
Watters highlighted the disproportionate impact that violent crime has on members of the Black community, and blasted Biden for shying away from it. “You can’t solve the problem unless you say what the problem is,” he said.
“The so-called compassionate president couldn’t bring himself to articulate the painful loss that black American families are suffering from every single day. That anti-gun agenda is a dodge,” Watters added.
The Fox News host pointed to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s approach to tamping down on high crime rates, saying, “New York City was awash with guns in the 90s when [Rudy Giuliani] brought the crime rate down. Proactive policing was the key along with tough sentences.”
Democrats tough on guns, soft on crime
Watters went on to explain how armed criminals often receive lenient legal treatment in Democrat-run jurisdictions, despite the ironic presence of some of the nation’s strictest gun laws.
“You have got to lock up shooters,” he insisted. “It’s just that simple. For instance, in Illinois, illegal possession of a firearm calls for 3 to 7 years in prison.”
“But shooters either get bailed out for nothing and skip or [district attorneys] and judges go soft. All we have to do is enforce the law on the books.”
“When the streets aren’t safe, the citizens arm themselves because they don’t trust the law to protect them,” Watters added. “Citizens all over the country are losing trust in the people we put in positions of power.”
Unfortunately for Americans all across the country, but especially for those who live in populated cities where violent crime continues to spike, they don’t have the type of president, such as former President Donald Trump, who will take all necessary and commonsense measures to mitigate the deadly trend.
