Fox News says it has ‘no interest in hiring’ Matt Gaetz amid budding scandal

Fox News has made clear that it has no plans to hire Rep. Matt Gaetz, despite the Florida Republican suggesting he had been in talks with the network about his “life after Congress.”

According to a new and exclusive report from Mediaite, Fox News said in a statement that Gaetz is not up for a job at the network or any of its affiliates.

The statement comes amid a budding scandal over allegations that Gaetz was once engaged in what CBS News described as an “inappropriate sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.”

“No one with any level of authority has had conversations with Matt Gaetz for any of our platforms and we have no interest in hiring him,” a spokesperson for Fox told Mediaite on Wednesday.

“Many conversations”

The statement from Fox came just hours after Gaetz told the left-leaning Daily Beast that he has had “many conversations with many people about life after Congress.”

The Republican congressman said that these talks have involved “executives, producers or hosts at Newsmax, OAN [One America News], Fox, Fox Business, Real America’s Voice, and probably others I’m forgetting in this moment as I focus intently on refuting false accusations against me.”

According to Mediaite, OAN’s CEO told the Daily Beast that Gaetz “is a great congressman,” and should “stay” in Congress.

“Verifiably false”

It all comes amid accusations against Gaetz that were first detailed in a New York Times article published Monday. The report claimed Gaetz is being investigated over possible violations of “federal sex trafficking laws,” including that he may have had a “sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him.”

Gaetz addressed the matter in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday, during which the congressman dismissed the claims as “verifiably false” and said they were concocted by a former Justice Department official to blackmail his family.

“It is a horrible allegation and it is a lie,” Gaetz said, according to a transcript from Rev. “People can look at my travel records and see that that is not the case.”

Gaetz also declared that the Department of Justice and FBI are in possession of “audio recordings” that “will prove [his] innocence.”

Mediaite reports that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) agreed Wednesday that Gaetz should be removed from his committee assignments if the allegations prove true. Fellow Republican Reps. Jim Jordan (OH) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) have each stood by their colleague in the House, however, with Greene describing the claims as “another witch hunt,” according to Mediaite.

    1. Expect to hear more of this if it’s valid. GOP seems to be standing back at this point. More important to get the record correct rather than be the first in line to broadcast unverified infomraton.

    2. Doubt if fox news said anything ,I also saw or heard nothing zero nada regarding any other networks interest I’m noticing this site is acting like one of those phoney conservative , where you get a sorta pro conservative lean then you get a really insincere review of the topic , seems they tease the story ,and when you read it you get a bad slant

  1. FOX can not hire anyone they want BUT the man has been put thru HELL by the left as they selectively do to conservatives now and then. FOX is half left right now—look at Chris Wallace–what a piece of work. FOX can do all they want but the only reason they are still on the air is Hannity and a few others. FOX screwed the pooch on election night and will NEVER recover!! All they can do is try to stay on the air. I quit them and so have MANY others. FIRE Wallace would be a good start!! He ought to be on CNN anyway!!!

    1. totally agreed i stopped watching FOX after Wallace’s performance during his Mod job of the presidential debates! Wallace is a flat out POS!

    2. I agree with your post !
      Screw Fox …
this is a hit job on Matt Gaetz
      Smear what they fear
Been so done with Fox News since Smelly Meghan Kelly & Fox Business … after they got rid of their best Lou Dobbs

  3. Why is it that someone is not innocent until proven guilty?
If he is found guilty of something, then that’s a different story.
People just create an accusation and others just jump on it.
That is the DEMS way of trying to ruin a Conservative.
That is why it is hard to get good people to work in DC. If someone (DEM) doesn’t like them or thinks they are a threat, they come up with a “story” and start spreading it over and over.

  4. I believe Gaetz! It is the leftist’ way of discrediting a good congressman. Why? Because he stood up to them! All republicans in congress should stand with him, he will prove his innocence! What will happen to the extortionist? Not a single thing, he is a demonrat!

  5. And Cuomo is still in office. Blatant hypocrisy! Which most of our Republican representatives complain about but take no ACTION. Didn’t they learn ANYTHING from President Trumps! Follow through you dumb Sh*ts!

  7. Don’t watch fox anymore they screwed up in November. What about swalwell cuomo, Clinton shouldn’t they be kicked out government. Only conservatives are put through the wringer. Msm are lying hypocrites. Check out farrakan and his buddy who killed a policeman. That racist jerk is still on social media.

  8. Gaetz should hire a damn good lawyer who can inform the FBI and the newspaper that published this stuff with no verification that if they both don’t start proving their accusations within five days they will be sued using any law his lawyers can use against their attempt at destroying his reputation which he needs to continue to get elected, period. If he lets these accusations, claims keep going he will be ruined because people will start believing the accusers because he isn’t fighting the accusers so the accusations must be true. If you say it long enough it becomes law without even voting for it. As for FOX if that is true, their own people talk against cancer culture and argue for due process, grand jury, trial by peers, etc. and a person should not be fired or not hired until a jury convicts them and even than they still should be able hold their job depending on how the judge treated what they have been convicted of. You should not be treated as if you have been convicted, you are innocent until proven guilty by a judge or jury of your peers.

    1. Unfortunately I think politicians are fair game. I also think that’s why Trump couldn’t sue the media for all the lies they published about him.

That’s one of the many reasons there should be ETHICS laws in political and media to prevent this kind of untrue, unproven hit piece.

  9. This is just another example of how FOX is unfortunately becoming more like CNN and MSNBC. Matt Gaetz is a Trump supporter and conservative. He is fighting a smear campaign launched against him and has every right to do that and be heard. He, like everyone else, is entitled to due process and his “day in court.” Clearly FOX doesn’t see it that way as they would have in the past. That’s one of the reasons why many, like me, have switched to NEWSMAX who are like FOX used to be—fair and balanced.

  10. This story against Matt Gaetz has dirty democrats written all over it including the dirty FBI and DOJ. This is their mode of operation and trying to extort his father is even worse. I feel so bad for him, his family and his fiance having to go thru this. The dems just aren’t happy unless they are trying the ruin someones life.
