While White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci has been idolized by some progressive pundits and politicians since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, his calls for various strict mandates have opened him up to widespread criticism among conservatives.
For his part, Fox News Channel personality Will Cain recently called for Fauci to be fired in order to rein in his “out-of-control” behavior.
“He is simply out of control”
Cain’s remark came in response to Fauci’s apparent endorsement of a plan to place unvaccinated Americans on a type of no-fly list.
During a recent ABC News interview, Fauci indicated that vaccine mandates would be a “welcome” addition to existing requirements. Despite the vaccinate status of passengers, he said relaxed rules on face masks are “something we should even be considering.”
In a subsequent Fox & Friends panel discussion, Cain sounded off on the “power-drunk” bureaucrat.
“You know, Dr. Anthony Fauci needs to be fired,” the panelist said. “He is simply out of control.”
Cain went on to challenge his colleagues in the mainstream media who have offered flattering coverage of the longtime D.C. insider.
“Find the limits”
“And I would ask any journalist who has access to Dr. Anthony Fauci: find the limits of his own power,” Cain said. “Ask him, ask him the limit of his own power. See if you can find the point at which he would go, “No, that’s too much. We would never do that.'”
Of course, this was hardly the first Fauci statement to spark such backlash from Americans who believe he is exceeding his authority under the Constitution.
Furthermore, Fauci has essentially cast his critics as enemies of science even as his own standards on issues like what it means to be fully vaccinated continue to shift. Despite apparently being comfortable with the thought of a vaccine mandate for air travel, he did assure Americans that they should not expect such a requirement — at least not yet.
In any case, Cain made it clear that he does not believe Fauci has the authority to determine whether airlines should be forced to require vaccines or not.
“He is not empowered to tell us to get vaccinated to fly,” Cain said. “He thinks so. And I would challenge you, find the limits. Ask him. See what he thinks the limits of his power might be.”
