Many of us probably thought we would never see the day when gas prices would be anywhere near $10 per gallon. But, it’s happening — all on President Joe Biden’s watch.
The New York Post reports that there are now some areas of the country where gas prices are nearly $10 per gallon.
The outlet reports:
A Chevron station in the coastal village of Mendocino about 175 miles north of San Francisco was charging $9.60 a gallon for regular on Friday afternoon.
According to the Post, there is also a Los Angeles, California, gas station that is charging over $8 per gallon. If you have a 12-gallon gas tank, this means that you’d be paying $100 or more for one fill-up.
Gas prices anywhere near $8 or $10 per gallon are absolutely absurd. You may say that such prices are only being seen at a few odd gas stations throughout the country. But, the situation everywhere else isn’t much better.
The national average for a gallon of gasoline is rapidly heading toward $5 per gallon. It currently sits at around $4.82 per gallon. But, this is only an average.
California has one of the highest averages in the country. It is $6.30 per gallon. Over on the east coast, New York is coming in at about $4.85 per gallon.
This is a far cry from where gas prices were when Donald Trump was president. Gas prices remained under $3 per gallon throughout his presidency.
What’s going on?
Biden and the Democrats have attempted to explain away these astronomical energy prices in various ways. Biden has, for example, pinned the blame on such things as the coronavirus pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
But, the fact of the matter is that Biden targeted oil and gas on day one of his presidency when he shut down the Keystone XL pipeline project. And, he has only continued his war on fossil fuels ever since, including with policies that stop the production of oil and gas on American soil.
Critics maintain that the soaring energy prices are part of Biden and the Democrats’ plan to force people to switch over to green energy. Biden, himself, recently gave credence to this argument.
Whatever the case may be, it is an election year, and Biden and the Democrats are getting hammered in the polls because of the energy crisis, among other things. Accordingly, Biden is now begging the Middle East for more oil. What effect this will have at the pumps remains to be seen.
