Thursday marked the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and several Democratic politicians delivered speeches on the event, including Vice President Kamala Harris, who absurdly elevated that moment of political unrest with deadly acts of war committed in the past against America.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) sharply criticized Harris for the remarks and argued that they proved how “totally unfit” she was for the role of the nation’s vice president, Fox News reported.
He also used what Harris had said to take a snarky shot at California’s education system and suggested that American voters be more cautious against electing “people who don’t know anything.”
To begin her speech Thursday morning, Vice President Harris said, “Certain dates echo throughout history, including dates that instantly remind all who have lived through them — where they were and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault.”
“Dates that occupy not only a place on our calendars, but a place in our collective memory. December 7th, 1941. September 11th, 2001. And January 6th, 2021,” she continued, placing the Capitol riot alongside the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that embroiled America in World War II and the Islamist jihadist attack that launched the global War on Terror.
Harris went on to discuss more of what happened on Jan. 6 while also shifting to discuss protecting “democracy” and the need to pass highly partisan Democratic legislation on “voting rights” that is actually a federal takeover of all elections procedures at all levels nationwide.
On Friday, former Speaker Gingrich joined Fox News’s Dana Perino to first discuss the Democrats’ so-called voting rights bill before honing in on what VP Harris had said about the Capitol riot in comparison to the deadly attacks on Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

“Her speech yesterday where she compared January 6 to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 I think was proof that California education is even worse than we thought,” Gingrich said.
“It’s inconceivable that you could compare a riot at the Capitol to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor or to the terrorists that killed almost 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and yet Harris cheerfully listed the three together as if they were the same event,” he continued.
“And I think it just tells you how totally unfit she is to be vice president,” Gingrich added. “She is vice president, they won the seat. I hope the American people learned a lesson about picking people who don’t know anything.”
Gingrich posted a similarly scathing message to Twitter Friday, and wrote, “Kamala Harris comparison of January 6 to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 was just plain embarrassing. Even with the decay of California schools she should have known that thousands died at both and both led to wars. Embarrassingly ignorant.”
