The horrific, tragic stories coming out of President Joe Biden’s Afghanistan blunder continue to mount, with Breitbart reporting that a small child was among those killed at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport on Saturday.
Breitbart pointed to a statement released by the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence which explained that seven people were trampled to death as a crowd rushed towards the gates at the only airport from where those who wish the flee the country can evacuate.
Seven people crushed
“Our sincere thoughts are with the families of the seven Afghan civilians who have sadly died in crowds in Kabul,” the statement read.
The statement added: “Conditions on the ground remain extremely challenging but we are doing everything we can to manage the situation as safely and securely as possible.”
One of those to die was a 2-year-old girl. The girl’s mother, who was formerly employed by a US. organization in Kabul, told The New York Times, “My heart is bleeding.”
“It was like drowning and trying to hold your baby above the water. I felt pure terror,” the distraught mother said, adding, “I couldn’t save her.”
The woman said that she will take her chances staying at her home in Afghanistan instead of risking going back to the airport, stating, “I’d rather die a dignified death here at home than die in such an undignified way.”
Pompeo slams Biden
Hers is just one of many awful stories that have emerged since President Biden opted to withdraw U.S. troops from the country, a move that Donald Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently criticized.
Pompeo told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that while former President Trump had also planned to withdraw troops, he insisted that the pullout would have been dictated by “conditions on the ground.”
Pompeo added that Trump would have rebuffed the Taliban’s rapid advance with airstrikes, explaining, “When they moved on a checkpoint, or moved in a place that they weren’t permitted to, we used American power and made clear to the Taliban that there would be real consequences.”
According to Pompeo, that approach contrasted sharply with how Biden had “just willy-nilly whipped the military out of there, leaving civilians, equipment, all of those things behind.”
As the situation on the ground in Afghanistan — which is already one of the worst foreign policy disasters in American history — continues to worsen, with any luck it could soon mark the end of Biden’s nearly five-decade-long, shameful political career.
