Earlier this month, it was reported that actor James Caan, known for his performance in The Godfather, had passed away at the age of 82. Now, we know the cause of Caan’s death.
The Washington Examiner reports that Caan died from “an amalgamation of heart problems.”
The Examiner got this information from an autopsy report obtained by TMZ. Per the Examiner:
Caan died from a heart attack and coronary artery disease and had also suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure, the report obtained by TMZ said.
Fans were notified of Caan’s passing via his official Twitter account, which made the announcement on July 7, the day after Caan’s passing.
The tweet read:
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. End of tweet.
It was further revealed that Caan had passed away at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. But, Caan’s cause of death was not revealed at the time.
Following the news, fans and friends and coworkers took to Twitter to express their condolences and to offer remembrances of Caan.
Among them was fellow Godfather star Al Puccino, who said:
Jimmy was my fictional brother and my lifelong friend. It’s hard to believe that he won’t be in the world anymore because he was so alive and daring. A great actor, a brilliant director and my dear friend. I’m gonna miss him.
Caan has been laid to rest in Eden Memorial Park, alongside many other celebrities.
